Comic book doodles

I was sorting out some old comic book drawings that I had put together earlier this year in order to flex my hand back into drawing action. I had spent a lot of time in a management/direction role and so my hand was a little rusty. I thought I would post a few examples of my doodles. Drawn in pencil and ink and digitally coloured.

This was an example front page to a script I had written and that I want to draw one day - it has the working title of "Dust." And yes, that is an astronaut riding a sort of space camel!
The script is a reworking of a very old Japanese Buddhist fable, I moved the location to an arid alien planet that is being colonized by humans. The style is a throwback to 1970s Sci-fi imagery.

The above pencil drawing is a panel example from the "Dust" story. I wanted it to be a satire on colonization, all is not what it seems in the story. I also love deserts, ever since I saw the film "Lawrence of Arabia" I have loved the visual appeal of deserts and the perceived romance of the nomadic life style.

Here is a photo of me in a desert in Egypt. I wouldn't recommend camels, horses are much better way to travel by.

And finally a sample page from a Judge Dredd script (which was not written by me). It was a little violent and I felt uneasy drawing these pages, but it was fun to draw Dredd from a sample script. I think I prefer much more fantasy based stuff that is a little more uplifting.

At the moment I am working on a full length original science fiction graphic novel that is both written and illustrated by myself. I hope to bring you news of any official updates when they happen, which hopefully will be soon.

Dan Fortesque - "Back from the dead!"

Well he may never have gotten an official sequel after MediEvil 2 but it looks like Sir Daniel Fortesque, hero of Gallowmere, has been resurrected one more time for Platstation All-Stars Battle Royale.

You can see a video of Sir Dan in action here...

A few people have emailed me to ask me what I think to Dan appearing in the game and what do I think to this iteration of him? My answer is that I think he looks mighty fine, he looks more like "Resurrection Dan" than the original games but that is no bad thing in my book.
Having had nothing to do with this game or this iteration of Dan I couldn't tell you if they have used my original voice from the previous games for this version of Dan.

EDIT - They didn't, he sounds more like the Swedish chef from the Muppet Show than Dan Fortesque, not nearly angry or vocal enough for the old school Dan. :)

I think most of the original team (who have subsequently moved on from Sony) would be surprised if they had learned back in 1996 that a game character they were working on would be appearing in a game in the year 2012! It's good to see the old fella back, all be it in a cameo role.
